National Parliaments Must Take Part in Debate on Future of EU

Ljubljana, 26 March - At the beginning, the process of European integration was an issue dealt with by governments of EU members, and it seemed as if chiefs of state had forgotten about the citizens. However the Laeken declaration and the convention on the future of the EU are clear signs of the realisation that the civil society and national parliaments must have a role in the debate on the Union, said Heinrich Neisser, former president of the Austrian Federal Council, who Tuesday gave a lecture in the Slovene National Council.
