Gov't Calls for Speedy Harmonisation of EU Legislation and Denationalisation

Ljubljana, 6 June - The Slovene government on Thursday made a positive overall assessment of the progress made by the country towards EU membership, but stressed that it is necessary to speed up the harmonisation of Slovene legislation with the acquis, as well as the denationalisation process. The assessment, found in the government report on Slovenia's accession progress, is one of the key elements of the European Commission's annual reports on candidate countries, due in autumn, which will be crucial this year, as they will serve as a basis for the EU's decision on which candidates should become full-fledged members in 2004.
