Seven Candidates Have so Far Announced Bids to Run for President

Ljubljana, 14 June - The autumn presidential elections promise to be very interesting, as seven candidates have so far announced their intention to run in a bid to succeed incumbent President Milan Kucan, who has already served two terms and is thus unable to stand again. Prime Minister Janez Drnovsek is the latest addition to the candidate list, as he finally confirmed Friday what media have speculated for months - that he would step down as prime minister in the middle of the term and enter the presidential race.
