Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 23 to 29 November

Ljubljana, 30 November - Dominating headlines this week was the compromise package offered to the EU candidate countries by the Danish EU presidency and the European Commission which is to serve as the basis for the conclusion of accession negotiations. Slovenia was pleased with what it considers to be an improved offer in agriculture. On the other hand, it was surprised by the offer for a seven year transitional period with which it could protect its real-estate market, since it agreed to forego any such right when it signed the Spanish Compromise. In their responses, Slovenian officials stressed that this was a "non-paper" and the EU member states had not agreed upon it yet.
