PM Anton Rop Elected New LDS Leader

Celje, 14 February - Prime Minister Anton Rop was elected a new leader of the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia (LDS). The senior coalition party therefore got a new president after it was led by Janez Drnovsek for nearly 11 years. Rop - the only candidate for the post - won with an overwhelming majority. While 468 delegates voted for him, seven voted against, with one ballot invalid. Rop stepped down as a party vice-president earlier on Friday before the Celje congress proceeded to electing a new leadership.
