Annual Review of Slovenian Sports

Ljubljana, 9 December - Slovenian athletes did not let their faithful fans down in the past year, giving them reason to cheer with a number of truly exceptional results. New stars shone: handball club Krim brought the women's European title back to Ljubljana, basketball club Krka surprised many on the way to the final of the ULEB Cup, while Slovenia got a new world champion in Dejan Kosir on his snowboard. Nevertheless, it is one particular loss that this year will be remembered by most, especially for the legions of diehard football fans that would have no second thoughts about trading any other sporting achievement for a place in the Euro 2004 finals tournament. By going down to Croatia in the additional playoffs for the tournament, the football team joined the hockey and basketball teams in being resigned to following the biggest competitions in their respective sports in 2004 on television.
