Slovenian Mother Tongue for Nearly 88% of the Population
Ljubljana, 4 January - Slovenian is the mother tongue for the vast majority of the population in the country, according to data compiled by the Statistical Office. The relative share of the population speaking Slovenian as their mother tongue has been declining ever since 1953, but the drop was by far lowest in the 2002 census, which revealed that 87.8 percent of the population consider the official language their mother tongue.
