Not-So-Encouraging Number of Voluntary Soldiers, Dnevnik Opines
Ljubljana, 13 January - In 1918 Slovenia boasted 12,000 voluntary soldiers. In 2004 there are 97. But of course the difference of the general situation of the two periods makes any comparison implausible. Indeed, the new recruiting system has come as an alternative to the mandatory military service in times when armed forces throughout the world have difficulties enlisting people, and has partly succeeded - even though in the Armed Forces there is still some room for volunteers, says Tuesday's edition of a Slovenian daily.
