Handball: Germany European Champion, Slovenia Second
Ljubljana, 1 February - Germany, on a roll since the second stage of the tournament, have beaten a brave but sloppy Slovenian team 30:25 (16:10) in the final of the 6th European Men's Handball Championships. It was "third time lucky" for Germany, as they dominated play to make up for heart-breaking losses in the finals of the 2002 European Championships and the 2003 World Championships. Meanwhile, Slovenia achieved its greatest handball success ever by bagging the silver medal and qualifying for the Olympics in the process.
