Weekly Review of Events Involving Slovenia from 28 February to 5 March

Ljubljana, 6 March - Slovenia last week received a letter from the NATO secretary general inviting the country to join the North Atlantic Treaty by depositing the accession documents. Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel paid a visit to Australia and New Zealand, while Europe Minister Janez Potocnik discussed EU budget in London. Another twelve soldiers left for the ISAP peace-keeping mission in Afghanistan, and the government is seeking participation in a further mission starting in September. The home scene was meanwhile shattered by a military plane crash in NE Slovenia, the first such accident in the history of the Slvenian army.
