Chronology Of Slovenia's Accession to the EU

Ljubljana, 8 March - Less than two months separate Slovenia from full-fledged EU membership. The path towards this goal took over ten years, including three long years of talks on the Europe Agreement, which served as the basis for the membership application, and five years of negotiating the terms of entry. The path has been marked by successes as well as drawbacks, but it has been accompanied throughout by exceptionally high public support. This was confirmed at the March 2003 referendum, when membership was endorsed with an almost 90-percent majority.
