Commencement of intergovernmental relations with Poland

Ljubljana, 22 October - The first part of Slovenia's "diplomatic offensive" closed with foreign minister dr. Dimitrij Rupel's return from Warsaw. On returning here dr. Rupel acquainted a press conference with his talks with Polish foreign minister Skubiszewski, prime minister Bielecki, president of the Seym Kozakiewicz and president of the Senate Stelmachowski. He described the visit to Poland as the beginning of Slovenian-Polish intergovernmental relations since it included talks on the exchange of representatives and intensification of economic, culturl and diplomatic relations. The Slovene delegation crossed the Polish border with the passports of the Republic of Slovenia although Poland's formal recognition of Slovenia is yet to take place, in coordination with the EC states.
