PRESS REVIEW FROM SLOVENIA, MARCH 19, 1992

Ljubljana, 20 March - VEČER: THE FRONTIER ESTABLISHED - The state border between Slovenia an Croatia is constantly gaining on an image we are already familiar with from the Italy - Austria - Hungary - border line, and of which we claim to be adjusting it to the European standards. Without any doubt we have liberalized the regime along our "old" state border already by exchanging the frontier army for the police. Along the Croatian border we have put before many Slovenian citizens new barriers and above all restrictions and prohibitions by enforcing the same rules, writes Bojan Bauman in the column The Echo. In the same context with the establishment of the borders we talk, least but not last, also about some 4000 Slovenian fishermen who will be faced with starvation, if the announced prohibition of fishing in the Croatian waters should be put in force. The only way out is a sensible agreement between the Slovenian and Croatian governments, and that as soon as possible, argues the writer. Time is running out, and the fishermen are faced with the danger the times will return to the Adriatic when their boats were full of holes machine-gun bullets had caused (Croatian ones this time?). The Croats hold the initiative at sea, and to find an agreeable solution where we would not have to come out as losers a reasonable compensation should be offered.
