LJUBLJANA - Some 450 delegates of the Liberal Democracy (LDS), the main opposition party, are to elect a new party leader at a congress that will get underway at 10 AM. Three candidates are bidding to succeed Anton Rop, who has led the party since February 2003. (STA)

ZAGREB, Croatia - The 12th summit of Central European Presidents is to come to an end. Slovenian President Janez Drnovsek is scheduled to meet his Austrian counterpart Heinz Fischer at noon.

LJUBLJANA - The coalition People's Party (SLS) is to hold a working meeting to discuss the economic and social reforms proposed by the government reform committee. SLS leader Janez Podobnik is to give a statement to the press at 11:30 AM.

MARIBOR - The 40th Borstnik Theatre Festival (until 26 October) will start at SNG Drama Theatre in Maribor with an exhibition of all Borstnik Golden Ring winners at 7:00 PM. The opening show, "My Father, A Socialist Kulak", is to follow at 8:00 PM.

MARIBOR - The end of the Days of Slovenian Rescue and Protection, which have been put on by the Administration for Rescue and Protection and the Maribor municipality. Defence Minister Karl Erjavec is to visit the event.

PORTOROZ - The final day of the Days of Slovenian Law Experts, a traditional event organised by the Federation of Law Associations and publisher GV Zalozba.

LEON, Spain - Celje Pivovarna Lasko, the reigning Slovenian handball champions, are to play Ademar Leon in the Group B match of the European Champions League; starting at 5:15 PM. (STA)
