President Not to Attend Sochi Opening Due to Ice Storm
Ljubljana, 6 February - Slovenia's President Borut Pahor will not be attending the Winter Olympics' opening ceremony in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi on Friday because of the ongoing ice storm in the country.
The president will stay home to actively follow the relief effort as the situation in the aftermath of the ice storm remains serious, his office said in a press release on Thursday.
The latest data from the Russian organizers show that 44 foreign heads of state or government will be present at the opening ceremony. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov a total of 60 foreign leaders plan to attend the games between 7 and 23 February.
