Levitating turntable maker launches production

Nova Gorica, 7 April - Mag-Lev Audio, a Slovenian startup that developed the first levitating turntable in the world, has launched production after having collected EUR 800,000 in Kickstarter and Indie Gogo campaigns. The company employs 20 people and plans to produce about 1,500 turntables a month.

The first turntables will be delivered to about 850 buyers that supported the company in the crowdfunding campaigns, whereupon they will ship out to global buyers who had already placed their orders, directors Tomaž Pegan and Davorin Furlan have recently said.

"Our buyers are mostly middle-aged people who want to enjoy their music after work in peace. They take the time to listen to music after a hard day's work to relax," Furlan told the STA on the sidelines of a recent event hosted by the Primorska Technology Park.

Some 60% of buyers come from the US, the rest from Europe, Australia and Japan. Only 40 turntables have been sold to Slovenian buyers, the rest are being shipped abroad.

Pegan said that the company plans to produce about 10,000 turntables in a year, adding that more than half of the components used are Slovenian-made.
