Slovenia to introduce global award on World Bee Day
Ljubljana, 20 May - A new award will be introduced on World Bee Day on Thursday as Slovenia marks this special UN day dedicated to honey bees and other pollinators, while a number of other events take place around the country. Slovenia is best known for its Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica), but it is home to more than 500 species of wild bees.

The Golden Bee Prize will honour achievements in the protection of bees and other pollinators globally. Agriculture Minister Jože Podgoršek says the first could be given out this December.
