EUR 1m in EU funds for new approaches to teaching Roma children
Ljubljana, 19 April - The Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EUR 1.032 million in EU funds to finance a project promoting flexible forms of learning and supporting quality career guidance for school-age Roma children and youth at all levels of education.
As part of the Multi-Purpose Roma Centres as Innovative Learning Environments project, the Centre for School and Extra-Curricular Activities will strengthen the competences, skills and knowledge of Roma children with a view to improve their inclusion and success in the education system and society, the Office said on Tuesday.
The money from the European Social Fund will thus be used to finance development of innovative pedagogical practice and more flexible forms of education suited to Roma children, including pre-school kids.
These new practices will then be integrated into learning environments at multi-purpose Roma centres based on the principles of individuation, personalisation and differentiation at the level of the basic and extended education curricula.
