Minister Arčon meets Slovenians in Canada

Ljubljana, 11 July - Minister for Slovenians Abroad Matej Arčon had a virtual meeting on Monday with representatives of the Slovenian community in Canada discussing ways of future cooperation and pointing to the need to give more focus to the youth learning Slovenian, the Office for Slovenians Abroad said in a statement.

Arčon expressed satisfaction with the activities and successful work of the community, adding that he would like to hold regular virtual meetings with them.

At one of the next meetings, Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina will present his powers because he would also like to be help Slovenians abroad.

Also at one of the next meetings, the American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF), whose members Arčon met today in Ljubljana, will be presented with the focus on scholarships.

Arčon also invited the Slovenians in Canada to promote the project of the European Capital of Culture that Slovenia's Nova Gorica and Italy's Gorizia will host in 2025.

The meeting was also attended by Slovenian Ambassador to Canada Andrej Gregor Rode, honorary consuls, and the representatives of Slovenian associations and other organisations.
