Slovenian minority in Austria to honour Milka Kriegl

Klagenfurt, 22 December - The Slovenian minority in Austria will honour Milka Kriegl, a dedicated Gailtal native, with the Tischler Award, a top recognition given out by the community. Kriegl will be celebrated for her dedication to preserving the Gailtal heritage, including its dialect, costumes and customs, as well as architecture.

The 44th Tischler Award will be presented to Kriegl on 24 January 2023 by Janko Krištof and Valentin Inzko, the presidents of the Christian Cultural Association and the National Council of Carinthian Slovenians (NSKS), respectively.

Named after teacher, politician and NSKS founder Joško Tischler (1902-1979), the award is given out to minority members for their contributions in arts, science, culture and politics. It is also given out to individuals for their contribution in spreading or strengthening the national identity and the renown of the Slovenian minority in Carinthia.
