Ljubljana, 11 August - National public broadcaster RTV Slovenija joined efforts to raise funds for people in flood-stricken areas, raising EUR 750,000 on Thursday. People could ring up a call centre which operated from 7am until the end of an evening TV show during which stories of affected people were shared and relief efforts presented.

Termed Together for Slovenia, the solidarity day at RTV saw participation of its radio stations and news portal MMC alongside TV Slovenia's show broadcast in the evening.

The broadcaster will rerun the show on Saturday afternoon to allow more people to donate at the phone number +386 1 472 00 11 or by sending a text message to 1919 with the key word DARUJ5 (to donate 5 euro) or DARUJ10 (to donate 10 euro).

At the call centre, staff from the Red Cross Slovenia and Caritas Slovenia as well as RTV staff and some celebrities were answering the phones, while listeners and viewers were called on to donate in various shows throughout the day.

Various fund-raises are being organised to help the victims of the floods, with eight small private radio stations joining forces to collect nearly EUR 2 million earlier in the week, while a charity auction of basketball star Luka Dončić's jersey signed by the entire Slovenian basketball team was launched.
