SIJ back at full capacity post-flood, will provide aid to flood-hit workers
Jesenice/Ravne na Koroškem, 21 August - Steel group SIJ relaunched its flood-hit subsidiaries, located in the Koroška region, on Wednesday, the group announced on Monday. It said it would pay out solidarity aid to the employees who suffered damage in the floods that hit Slovenia on the first weekend in August.
While SIJ's two facilities in Jesenice (NW) remain unharmed, parts of SIJ Metal Ravne and SIJ Ravne Systems were flooded. The group's two other subsidiaries in Ravne na Koroškem were saved from the water by firefighters.
Production at the flooded companies was gradually restarted in the days after the floods, the group said. As more and more employees returned to work, SIJ Ravne Systems was back at full capacity in the week after the floods, while SIJ Metal Ravne followed on 16 August, after cooling system and generator repairs.
The group underlined that the biggest challenge for the entire business sector in Koroška was destroyed traffic infrastructure.
Around 1,500 SIJ employees and their families live in the worst-hit areas. Those who sustained the most significant damage will receive between EUR 2,500 and EUR 10,000 in solidarity aid, the group said.
