Women's Quota for European Elections Proves Controversial

Ljubljana, 26 February - Debating amendments to the act on elections to the European Parliament, lawmakers on Thursday examined the government's solutions to determine the status of Slovenian MEPs in the interim period until the June elections, and debated the proposal for women's quotas. Some MPs have voiced the opinion that making it mandatory for each party to have at least three women on the seven-member candidate list, could be unconstitutional.
