Slovenia Won Key Recognitions of Its Sovereignty 20 Years Ago
Ljubljana, 18 December - Germany, Sweden and Iceland were the first west European countries to recognise Slovenia's independence 20 years ago, on 19 December 1991, triggering a process that eventually led to the country's membership of the UN. Germany's and Sweden's recognition took effect on 15 January 1992, when Slovenia was recognised by the then European Community.
