Roš named World Tourism Organisation's gastronomy tourism ambassador

Madrid, 20 November - The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) has designated Slovenian's master chef Ana Roš an official UNWTO ambassador for gastronomy tourism. The organisation's Zurab Pololikashvili said Roš's commitment to the use of local ingredients served as an example that contributed to sustainable entrepreneurship.

"Ana Roš swears by from the garden to the plate philosophy and what she does not produce in her home herb and vegetable garden she obtains from her wide network of local suppliers. She is passionate about combining traditional local dishes with modern cooking methods," the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) wrote on the occasion.

Roš commented on the title by saying it showed "what Slovenian gastronomy or any other similar ambitious activity is capable of achieving".

"For me the ambassador title is not an award but an encouragement to stay an example for those doubt they can really succeed in what they are pursuing and only need a little encouragement to get even better," she added.

The STO meanwhile noted that Slovenia was getting increasingly recognised among lovers of top gastronomy also due to exceptional chefs like Ana Roš and that the board regularly cooperated with chefs when promoting itself as a destination abroad.

Roš was declared UNWTO ambassador as Hiša Franko, the restaurant in Slovenia's Kobarid ran by Roš, was presented in Madrid along with Slovenia by the Slovenian Embassy, the STO and the Government Communication Office.
