The 52 Hungarian officers will work alongside their Slovenian colleagues in the northeast of the country, in the area covered by the Maribor and Murska Sobota police administrations.

Their powers will equal those of their Slovenian counterparts, however Hungarian officers will work along the domestic force members at all times.

The officers, who have been welcomed by Hungarian Ambassador Edit Szilagyine Bartofi and Murska Sobota police chief Damir Ivanič, are members of a special police force specialising in Schengen border control and preserving public peace and order.

Under the bilateral police cooperation agreement with Hungary, the officers will remain in Slovenia until 31 January.

Apart from the 52 Hungarian officers, there are also eight Austrian, five German and 25 Estonian officers in Slovenia, as well as 20 from each Lithuania, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, the General Police Administration has said.
