Govt abolishes jail for unpaid fines

Ljubljana, 25 February - The government adopted changes to the minor offences act on Thursday, under which Slovenia is to abolish jail for unpaid fines. The move comes more than a year after the Constitutional Court found that provisions allowing the jailing of persons who fail to pay their fines for up to 30 days run contrary to the Constitution.
